What Do You Want to Do Before You Die?

If you are unfamiliar with Omegle, it is a chat room that picks someone at random, who you are then able to chat with. Normally, there are between 29,000 to 42,000 actively using the site at one time. In “The Buried Life” style, I have already asked over three dozen strangers on the street the #1 item they want to cross off their bucket lists, as well as my readers, so I thought it might be fun to do the same on Omegle.

Of course, my question was met with a lot of “This user has disconnected” I think it is a lot easier to reject someone over the Internet than face to face — as well as mocking or crude responses. Yet I also noticed a lot of patterns among the more serious responses. It always amazes me how we humans often seek similar elements in our lives. But I’ll let you guys come up with your own conclusions. Without further ado, here is a random sample of responses when 30 people on Omegle were asked, “What is the #1 item you want to cross off your bucket list?”:

1). To travel around the world! With my backpack and my camera.

2). Hmm, just to live life and not care what anyone thinks!

3). Humm, I don’t know. You tell me.

4). To shave my head maybe. I’m a girl.  [How come?] Hair sucks to be honest.

5). To drive a stock car.

6). There’s so many things.

7). There’s not just one thing.

7). Dafaq is a bucket list?

8). To meat the girl I have bin looking for. [I normally edit for grammar, but I just had to maintain the spelling for this one!]

9). What would you like my answer to be? Sex? Drugs? Marriage? Porno?

10). Honestly, as weird as it sounds, I want a really successful relationship with a beautiful, smart woman.

11). Umm, I would probably go in the forest somewhere in solitude.

12). Skydiving.

13). Probably skydiving.

14). To travel the world. Lol.

15). To be fearless and not care about being the people pleaser that I am.

16). To go to 15 countries. Minimum. [Awesome. Any in particular?] Trip to England, France, and Belgium is booked. Still want to go to Spain and Cuba.

17). Umm, jump out of a moving car.

18). Sex.

19). C—k

20). Uh, possibly travelling around the world or something like that.

21). To go to Rio.

22). Condoms.

23). Ball.

24). I have so many. I’d like to get to know the snow. Go to London. And Australia. And Ireland. [Oh, have you never seen snow before?] Sadly no.

25). To have a threesome. [Lol.] Lol.

26). To scuba dive in the clear blue ocean.

27). Okay, well if you’re a girl then I have an answer, but it’s pretty awkward if you’re a guy. [Haha, I swear I’m a girl :]] Alright, well then hands down it will be to fall in love.

28). To get rich, lol.

29). Being with the love of my life. This was before she cheated on me. [Oh gosh, I’m so sorry, that’s awful.] You have no idea.

30). What is a bucket list?

Hope you all enjoyed the list! What do you guys think? And what is the #1 item you want to cross off your bucket list?

I thought about that for a moment, and my first response was, wow, that’s a really hard question. My second is that it would be really nice to have a home with a well stocked old-school style bar in a nice library room. My third is to move my family completely to a new country to live on mission, somewhere in Africa, Asia or Eastern Europe maybe.

    • Wow, I love both of those goals! They each sound awesome :) A house with a library and a bar would be nice, and would living abroad!

      • David says:

Unfortunately probably mutually exclusive, unless we move to Eastern Europe! I’d have to add going into space like someone else wrote.
I tried that site – the person I got said “24 m gay, what are you doing?”
When I told him I was watching Hogfather, he asked what that was, and when I told him, he disappeared.

  2. go to space, even if it is on one way ticket

  3. Haha, this is a great post.

I’m a huge animal lover, so I would love to be able to study animals in their natural habitat. (From a safe distance of course!) ;)

  4. Daisy Prado says:

How do you not know what a bucket list is???? hahahaha :) These responses made me think. I can’t believe so many people just want to find love. I want to find a soul mate too but I also want to LIVE LIFE!
#1 on my bucketlist is to have a mini travel show. :)
    Happy Travels,
    Daisy

    • Haha, Daisy, it does always surprise me to hear people ask that question! I completely agree, it’s amazing how many people offer that response. And I love the idea of a mini travel show, such a neat concept :)

I love this and I love that you used Omegle to ask people. I feel like when people are caught so off guard they will answer more honestly because they will say the first thing that comes to mind. It is definitely crazy to see how similar we are as a society. I know my bucket lists includes skydiving, traveling, successful marriage, family and so on. This is great. Thank you for sharing it!!

  6. TJ Petri says:

I want to take my last breath on this earth knowing I fulfilled God’s purpose for me on this earth. Share the gifts he gave me, help the hurting, share the Gospel message to everyone I can.

  7. to me it would be to see planet earth as a ball….from space! the second one that pops in my mind is to travel to some of the remotest part of the world :)

  8. scootd28 says:

To meet Jesus Christ face-to-face. I’ve found love greater than I ever thought possible. I’ve become the man I wanted to be when I was 10 years old.

  9. lruthnum says:

Interesting list. Mine is the same as the first item on it and I plan on making that a reality next year :)

  10. challenyee says:

Hey Christine, Great post! Part of my dream is to be able to help people understand what stands in the way of achieving their dreams, is, first and foremost, him or herself.

  11. Be Happy, successful, travel the world and be able to come home to a beautiful home with an incredible and huge library with a view. Why not wish for the lot:).

  12. to be in a Beyonce Music Video

  13. wphancco says:

My post went wonky, apologies, I will try again. I am seriously lucky as I am going to cycle the largest timed cycle race in the world (Argus Cycle Tour South Africa), I am going to travel on a scrambler for around 600 km on gravel roads in the most rugged scenery (wait for the video) and I am going to walk in the Himalayas from Lukla to Everest Base Camp! What’s more important is I am doing all 3 with my amazing wife. Someone pinch me! Gotta use !xclamation marks on a USA site! One more !

  14. redhawksgirl says:

I want to fall in love with a great guy and have a happy marriage with three kids and a puppy. :)

  15. I’m impressed and, admittedly, surprised by the amount of “find love” responses you got. Especially on Omegle.

I find it hard to nail down just one top thing on an exhaustive bucket list, so I’ll just go with the answer that I want to be happy living. Whatever that may entail from today and into the rest of my life.

    • I know right? It makes sense, but I was fairly surprised as well or that people even took the time to respond! And I love when people answer that they just want to be happy because I think that is so important :)

  16. emilykeizer says:

love love love love this post(: i want to travel to all of the countries that my family is from; the netherlands, indonesia, japan, scotland, sweden, & norway!

  17. jona562662 says:

I really, really love this post! I am a big fan of the buried life. I want to…I don’t know…

  18. btg5885 says:

To see my children doing something they love to do with someone they love and are loved in return. The greatest joy as a parent is hearing your children laugh, especially with friends. I am just extending that forward. BTG

  19. Kat - MFU says:

Before I die I want to emigrate to Perth Australia and buy (and sail) a little boat like the one Dexter has in the TV show :-p

  20. If I can live each day loving my neighbor as Jesus taught, and living my time given me on earth to the fullest, then this is what I want to do

  21. Aya Walksfar says:

On my bucket list, all the items are relatively small: I’d like to see my novels take off and gain readership because I love sharing words and worlds and I want to make an impact on a few lives, give people things to think about, feel good about; I want to motorcycle ride to California with my wife–that type of thing.
The number 1 thing I sought for so many harsh years, I found 25 years ago: my wife. I want to live, share, love and be with her until beyond forever. It hasn’t been easy. As lesbians, we’ve faced violence, prejudice, hate; but we’ve also found people who were open, and friendly; supportive and helpful.

  22. Aww this is great! Love this post! =)

  23. paranoiasnfm says:

    Ahahah! Great list! :D
We share some of the same tasks… i hope to do it some of them with you! :P ahah ;)

  24. Patrice says:

You have me thinking… Don’t know, guess pretty content at the moment… Great subject, love your spirit!
And a BIG Thank You for the ‘Follow’ on my blog :D Going off to enjoy yours, be talking’ to ya

  25. I’d like to travel around my Lord’s world for sure. I’ve been to a couple of countries in Europe and Canada and Mexico. So, I’d like a very private ride to Australia to add to the list. Maybe Ireland, too.

  26. Hi – hope you’re well. I guess after two near misses of losing out on life – I would say “legacy” what is the legacy I leave behind, who will I affect while I am still alive and I am studying now to remedy that.

  27. rhchatlien says:

Thanks for visiting my blog. This is an interesting post. I think the top item on my bucket list would be to have a whole year just to write my fiction without having to work.

  29. Great list! The second one really inspired me. We should all have that on our list. :)

  30. Mike says:

Hey Christine, I’d like to take a future grandchild for a twilight walk by the Barada River buying savories from smiling vendors at colourful street stalls as musicians play melodies near the gate of the huge sandstone palace that now serves as a museum but used to be the home of the late President Bashar Al-Assad.

Thank you for this opportunity to scratch my head…

  31. Reblogged this on sunspots&butterflies and commented:
Randomly found this – pretty neat idea and interesting responses! What do you think?

  32. I never read all the comments people leave on posts but this time I felt compelled. What would I like to do before I die? I could say “live life” but I am doing that now. I think what I’d really like to do is to leave a legacy, so that my name lives on. I’d better get started!

  33. Amy says:

Good for you, girl! I hope you get to accomplish all you want to. I have always wanted to start my own business. That would be my Number 1 but I don’t know if I’ll get there any time soon. Also on my bucket list – having a child! I would love for you to see and share more on my blog, too! Please follow: http://edibleepiphanies.wordpress.com Thanks!

  34. krissnp says:

    A long list.

  35. This is great! Well done, I love the feel of this blog, keep up the great work xox
Mine would be to finally see my name on my books, being sold all around the world.

I recently read an article about asking people you meet something amazing they’ve done or always wanted to do- and then doing it too! And then of course sharing one with them as well. It creates a different relationship and memory of this person when they share something so personal like that. I love it so much more than making my own bucket list- I want to do everything, and these give me little goals in the middle of my own travels.

  38. sland24 says:

Can I just agree with #7! The 2nd #7, of course.

  39. specialistneeds says:

    Lovely little read.
I myself don’t have a bucket list, but I would say that the one thing I would love to do before I die, is to be in front of an audience and make them smile and happy and forget about their troubles.

  40. erinszoo says:

I loved seeing the consistency of the responses to travel. I’ve done that though, even lived overseas for a time. While it’s fun and all and I enjoy it, my top three are to move onto acreage, build my own house, and publish my novels. Reading that they seem kind of selfish but after a life of raising two autistic children and being foster mom to twenty seven other kids, I think I can spend a few years being a little more selfish than I’ve been in the past …

    • I agree, so many answers about traveling! That’s awesome you lived overseas :) WOW, that is a lot of children; that’s amazing! I agree that you deserve some time to yourself as well!

  41. bigunit1978 says:

Such a good idea, very similar to my own, although mine isn’t a bucket list but a never ending and constantly lengthening train ride! Love some of your posts, keep up the good work. We should swap some ideas. K

  42. Kapil Jain says:

Travel Around the world, do lots of adventurous stuff, make lots of new friends and learn about the various cultures
That’s what I have on top of my mind

  43. ayoung8575 says:

I love this topic and am always surprised that people don’t know what they want most out of life. Of course the answer to this question evolves as we do so at this point in my life I want to show my children the world and experience the beauty of diversity through their eyes.
